Un gran reto para las fans de @sweaterspotter. En este taller, aprenderás a tejer una versión mini del chal Ess utilizando todas las técnicas para que, al finalizar, seas capaz de tejer la versión original publicada en su libro Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting.

En esta sesión teórico-práctica, no sólo tejerás la muestra del chal Ess. Anna te mostrará la construcción del chal, cómo cambiar de colores y manejar los hilos sueltos. También dará una introducción sobre Marlisle y te explicará los principios del knotted steek: la técnica utilizada para crear el borde con flecos del chal, sin añadir hilo. Conocer la función y la aplicación del steek, montar y desmontar puntos, determinar la zona del steek y asegurar los puntos y cortarlos es básico para tejer el chal Ess y otros de sus diseños, como el Shantay Cardigan y la Ruperto Scarf.

El steek y sus variaciones resultan ideales para mantener la elasticidad de tus proyectos tejidos y permite tejer colorwork en redondo por el lado derecho y crear construcciones tan innovadoras como las de tu maestra. ¡Prepárate para redoblar tu confianza a la hora de tejer!

Conocimientos previos: Tejer stranded colourwork y pequeñas circunferencias con agujas de doble punta, magic loop o agujas cortas (podrás elegir la técnica que ya domines).

Material incluido: Obsequio de Pascuali 

Material necesario: lápiz, tijera pequeña y afilada, cinta métrica o regla, agujas de doble punta o circulares de 4 mm (con el cable suficientemente largo para hacer un magic loop). Se recomienda traer un rango de agujas de entre 3.25 y 5 mm, por si necesitas ajustar la tensión a lo largo del taller, ganchillo de una medida similar a la medida de la aguja.  Para realizar el steek el hilo tiene que ser 100% lana sin tratamiento superwash en grosor fingering. Necesitarás 2 colores que contrasten, pero que armonicen entre sí. 

De acuerdo con la medida de chal que quieras tejer, necesitarás lana 100%, entre 100 y 200 g de grosor, para el pequeño y entre 125 y 200 g de lana worsted, para el grande. Si no tienes el patrón o no tienes clara la medida, podrás tejer la versión mini. Necesitarás 25 g de dos colores que armonicen entre sí. 

Opcional: Si puedes, lleva tu ejemplar de Mairisle: A New Direction in Knitting. Anna dará las instrucciones completas para tejer una muestra en clase, pero no el chal completo.

In this workshop, you will learn how to knit a mini version of the Ess Shawl using all the techniques so, once it's over, you will be able to knit the original version published in her book Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting. 

In this theory and practice session, you won't only knit a sample of the Ess Shawl. Anna will show you the construction of the shawl, such as changing colors and to manage wild threads.

She will also give an introduction about the Marlisle and she will explain the fundamentals of the knotted steek: the techniques used to create the edges with fringe of the shawl, without adding threads.

To know the function and applications of the steek, to mount and dismount stitches, to determine the steek zone and to secure the stitches and to cut them is essential to knit the Ess shawl and her other designs, like the Shantay Cardigan and the Ruperto Scarf.

The steek and her variations are perfect to maintain the elasticity of your knitted projects and allows you to knit colorwork in rounds on the right side and to create structures as innovative as hers.

Previous knowledge: Knit stranded colorwork and small circumferences with double pointed needles or magic loop (choose the one you’re more confident with)

Included material: Gift from Pascuali

Pencil, small, sharp scissors, measure tape, 4mm needles to knit small circumferences in the round with the technique you’re more confident (double pointed needles, magic loop, etc), crochet hook (similar to needle size). Students can bring a range of sizes from 3.25mm to 5mm, as they may wish to adjust during class, while we are together.

Depending on whether you will eventually knit the small or large size, the Ess Shawl calls for 100g/3½oz or 200g/7oz of fingering weight yarn AND 125g/4oz or 200g/7oz light worsted weight. For further details, see the Ess Shawl pattern entry on Ravelry or read the details in the book. Go for 100% wool, ideally not super wash treated – you want something a little ‘sticky’ for easier steeking and more forgiving colourwork. You want 2 contrasting, but harmonious colours. If you are undecided of the yarn for your full size-shawl, you will need at least 25gr of each for your tiny version.

Optional: An optional copy of Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting is recommended. Full instructions are provided in class to work the swatch, but not the actual shawl.
